Bucktown Transportation

The orderly configuration of Chicago's streets and the excellent public transportation system make the city of Chicago quite accessible to residents and visitors.

For those interested in driving, seven interstate highways run through the city of Chicago, producing several easy routes to travel into and out of the city. Bucktown is easily accessible using the Kennedy Expressway exits at Fullerton, Armitage or North Avenues. Street parking is generally available within Bucktown, and many restaurants offer valet parking.

Public transit is plentiful throughout Bucktown and most of the Chicagoland area. The CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) is a great way to travel around Chicago for a low, one-way fare of $1.75. The CTA provides a convenient mode of transportation without the hassle of traffic jams and the difficulty of finding a parking space.

CTA buses have several routes throughout the Bucktown area, including an express bus. Bus routes include Damen Ave. #50, North Ave. #72, Milwaukee Ave. #56, Division St. #70, Ashland Ave. #9, Western Ave. (express) #49, and Armitage Ave. #73.

The “El” is the nickname for Chicago’s elevated train system. The El’s Blue Line has three stops in Bucktown at Armitage & Western, Damen & North, and Division & Milwaukee. Also for a low, one-way fare of $1.75, the El’s Blue line will take you from O’Hare airport to downtown Chicago.

Metra has a Bucktown stop called Clybourn. Metra’s Union Pacific North and Union Pacific Northwest lines both have regular stops at Bucktown’s Clybourn stop.

Another means of transportation throughout Chicago are taxi cabs, available at most major intersections. A ten-minute cab ride from the heart of Bucktown to downtown Chicago will cost around $10.

Bicycle riding in Bucktown is another excellent alternative to driving. There are numerous street-side bike racks and designated bike routes, making bicycle riding an effortless way of traveling throughout Chicago.
